What did these Christians do upon being baptized and deciding to follow Jesus?
Why has Jesus saved us? Why has he set apart His church? 1. to Worship God 2. to Love God’s people.
They were devoted to the word, gathered around the Lord’s table and gathered to pray.
Jesus saves people by His word. He sustains his people by His word. It brings life and sustains life.
You don’t just need the word of God at the beginning of your salvation, you need it for the whole journey. It is here to nourish and strengthen us as we journey towards heaven.
While your salvation is personal, it is not a private matter.
We must be devoted to God’s word. The way we love one another is gathering in devotion to God’s word.
How could one follow Christ’s commands if they are not being taught them?
We must make it our aim to be ambitious and devoted to God’s word.
We want to come starving for the word of God.
The Lord’s supper is the ongoing sign that you are in good standing with the church. Not everyone is participating in Christ.
Baptism is where one becomes many and the Lord’s supper is when many become one.
Take the Lord’s supper seriously, reflectively and prayerfully.
Taking the supper on the Lord’s day prepares us for the day when we will feast eternally in heaven.
If the prayer of a righteous man availeth much, how much more the prayer of a righteous assembly?
Prayer to a church is oxygen to its lungs.
Let us not pray out of compulsion but conviction.
Their life and love for one another were marked by unity, hospitality and generosity.
The awe that they had informed and protected their unity.
Being a Christian doesn’t mean that you’re absent of fear, it means that you are filled with a fear that will draw you to the Lord. One that sobers you when you’re in and around the house of God.
The church of God is precious to Him so it should be precious to us.
The church was not an amenity to their lives but a necessity. Let it be so in mine.
Gifts from God are to be enjoyed and shared with others.
Faith in Christ produces a life in Christ
