exchange-value

By

the value that can be extracted by exchanging a commodity

One of Marx's critiques of capitalism is that exchange-value is prioritized over Use-value

For example, it's very profitable and good for shareholders to build things that work fine but don't last very long, this is called planned obsolescence

If one prioritized use-value instead of exchange value, you'd build something that's meant to last (less profitable, good for the customer though)
