As of September 2025, WeWrite development is paused due to engineering resource constraints. We are bootstrapping (without external investors) and the funds we've allocated for WeWrite have run dry for now. We're continuing to explore various revenue channels to remedy this.
Subscription UI is all there, but some users are having problems starting new subscriptions, which needs to be fixed. Ironically this would help us to fund the project if this was working properly.
Payouts UI is also built, but as of August 2025, the payouts to writers didn't work as expected, this needs to be fixed - see here Audit August 2025 Fund Flows
Additionally, at the beginning of the month, all allocations reset to zero, which was unexpected. The intended design is that allocations should persist, so we can lay the foundation for writers earning sustainable income and not needing to constantly outwork their previous month.
I'd encourage users to continue writing pages and creating interconnected networks of pages, once we have engineering resources we will focus on fixing subscriptions and payouts and continuing through the rest of the WeWrite Roadmap
If you'd like to support us financially so we can get back to engineering, you can do so via OpenCollective
Once the engineering stuff is in a better place, we'll be doubling down on WeWrite Marketing and getting users on board, especially those who already have large online communities that they'd like to monetize.
