There is no one like Jesus: 1. He gives the promised spirit 2. He is the promised Lord in Christ 3. He promises forgiveness to all that come to Him.
Acts is about the work of God’s Spirit through His Church.
Pentecost was one of the three major feasts that Israel was required to celebrate yearly - it took place fifty days after Passover.
Everyone in the room was filled with the Holy Spirit - the mighty wind and fire are Old Testament references to the presence of God. He came down not just to fill the room but to fill His people.
The thing we should marvel at is not HOW God came but WHY He came.
Why did God perform this miracle in this way? He did this to confirm and declare that in Christ Jesus, through His spirit…..⚠️ re listen to this part lol
God fills His people with His Holy Spirit to declare His good works.
Acts doesn’t reflect something that SHOULD happen but something that has happened. You don’t need to speak in tongues in order to be saved. God’s spirit works through His Word.
We cannot lose the spirit, when we ask for it we are simply asking for more of something we already have.
“Let me continue to see the beauty and glory of Jesus”
There is none like Jesus because He fills His people with His spirit to proclaim His message.
Joel 2:28-32 this is about God restoring His people while Acts 2 is that coming to pass.
Foreknowledge here is God declaring what will happen not just “knowing”
God is sovereign over all of the earth.
What the wisest and strongest men do, God can redeem for His own glory.
Death met its match in Jesus for not even death could hold him down.
Peter is speaking here standing in this moment in Acts 2 declaring the Lord in front of the same people he denied him in front of at Passover.
Psalm 16 - a prophesy about a descendant of David who would defeat death, this descendant is Jesus Christ.
Peter is saying that Jesus is the promised son of David who sits on the throne forever and always.
The main attraction of the book of Acts is not the signs and wonders but Jesus. He is gathering and restoring his Kingdom before our very eyes.
When Jesus works through the spirit, not even the hardest heart can resist His love.
Though the cost of the Christian life is great, the reward is way greater.
