A Rule of Life

Living Wisely Under the Sun, Resting Securely in Christ

Gospel Foundation

I do not live to justify myself.

I am justified by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Christ has borne my sin, conquered death, and secured my future.

Therefore, I am free to live faithfully without fear, striving, or despair.

1. I will fear God, not master life

I will acknowledge daily that I am not God.

I will receive my limits as gifts, not threats.

I will trust God’s wisdom when life feels unresolved.

Because Christ rules all things, I do not need to control them.

2. I will use wisdom, but rest my hope in Christ

I will seek wisdom, discipline, and discernment.

I will not expect wisdom to protect me from suffering or sorrow.

I will entrust my life to Christ, who is my true wisdom.

Because Christ is my righteousness, I am free to live wisely without fear of failure.

3. I will receive daily life as grace

I will enjoy food, work, rest, and relationships with gratitude.

I will resist turning God’s gifts into idols or burdens.

I will give thanks in ordinary moments.

Because Christ has secured eternal joy, I can receive present joys without clinging to them.

4. I will work faithfully and release the outcome

I will labor diligently, honestly, and humbly.

I will leave results, recognition, and legacy in God’s hands.

I will measure faithfulness, not success.

Because Christ’s work is finished, my work need not be ultimate.

5. I will allow sorrow to refine me

I will not numb grief or rush past suffering.

I will let hardship teach me humility, compassion, and patience.

I will bring my lament honestly before God.

Because Christ entered suffering for me, my suffering is never meaningless.

6. I will resist envy, outrage, and cynicism

I will not envy the prosperity of the wicked.

I will not allow injustice to harden my heart.

I will trust God’s final judgment rather than demand immediate resolution.

Because Christ will judge righteously, I can live patiently now.

7. I will speak less and listen more

I will guard my words before God and others.

I will value restraint, silence, and thoughtful speech.

I will avoid rash promises and empty religious talk.

Because Christ is my advocate, I do not need to justify myself with words.

8. I will remember my mortality and live intentionally

I will live aware that my days are numbered.

I will love sincerely, repent quickly, and forgive freely.

I will not postpone obedience.

Because Christ defeated death, my life now matters deeply.

9. I will live with reverent obedience

I will seek to obey God’s commands even when clarity is lacking.

I will walk by faith, not by explanation.

I will trust God’s character when His ways are hidden.

Because Christ obeyed perfectly in my place, my obedience flows from gratitude, not fear.

Daily Prayer

LORD, teach me to live wisely without pretending I am sovereign.

Teach me to enjoy Your gifts without trusting them.

Teach me to work faithfully and rest deeply in Christ.

Help me fear You, love others, and walk humbly until I see You face to face.
