like the Narodniks prior to the Bolshevik Revolution whose name in Russian literally translates to "People-ists"
Sometimes populism can be used for evil, to divide a population and whip people up against a scapegoat, especially when it comes to racial or religious difference
Other times, populism can be used for good, to unite an entire land (with many kinds of people) on the basis that the interests of everyone ought to prevail over a tiny minority few oligarchs and elites
Even if a people aims to be insular against other types of people, they ought to seek non-antagonistic relations with one another, like how I'm an American who admires China, but I do not want to import the Chinese system or culture into America. I want a uniquely American system but I admire the Chinese system.
