Users could use the @ symbol to ping users by name when the page or edit is published.
Applications:
Creates Digital desire paths towards users the pinging user wants to share their work with. Working with Curator economy ?
Users could edit Stale pages to send them to users who could still use them
Users could edit a page with a ping to guide the users following it to another user
On twitter and similar sites, the ping is an irritating part of fast-paced discussion. On WeWrite, it can lead to Real arguments.
It can be used to submit assignments.
It lets users "message" each other publicly without creating a private messaging system. Any improper use would be public and quickly noticed.
An inbuilt anti-harassment measure would be that if a page pings a non-user or email address with @, as soon as an account is created with the same name or under the same address, they may receive the ping notifying them of their mention on the page.
Downsides:
Idolatry
The @ symbol was previously used to insert links to pages
Users may brigade the user pinged in an edit to a page they all follow.
If the feature is added please ping me.
